Lodestar is active in several areas of plasma physics research having important applications to controlled nuclear fusion. Specific areas in magnetic fusion research include tokamak edge stability, turbulence and transport physics, rf wave propagation and nonlinear rf effects. Our theoretical work frequently includes collaborations with other computer simulation, experimental and engineering research groups, both in the US and international fusion programs.

Lodestar has also been active in the area of code verification and validation. The 2DX project developed a large number of benchmark tests for edge instabilities, which are described here. Please see the technical reports section for links to a Lodestar report on the 2DX project as a whole, and a publication describing the 2DX edge eigenvalue code.
